CES 2017

Las Vegas

Jan 5-7, 2017

Once again Ron, Greg and Sheldon made their annual pilgrimage to the Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas. As usual we stayed at the SouthPoint. Not much there for entertainment, so the first night we saw comedy at Brad Garrett's Comedy Club which is inside the MGM Grand. Drew Thomas was exceptional.

In 2.5 days we could hardly see everything. The parts we did see were nearly all improvements on existing electronics. The drones manufacturers were more numerous than ever, the drone formations moved much faster, with more precision and between more obstacles than ever before. 4K TVs were in the vast majority, only 1 manufacturer showed off 8K TVs. There was a 4K TV that displayed via separate red and green lasers, that was supposed to give better color depth. There was a massive 200+ inch 3D TV that had great resolution and is viewed without glasses. That was a great innovation.

The Audi demos were always the greatest show of self driving cars. The Audis were not at CES, but their parent company Volkwagen was present. Probably due to the emissions problems that Volkswagen has been having. This year I concentrated on video rather than still shots. So much of the show is not done justice via stills. I connected all the clips into one massive video.
