Ron, Greg and Sheldon spent three days at CES Las Vegas, as we have for at least the last 5 years. As always, we are there at the behest of HCR Electronics. The first day was spent mostly viewing the automotive displays. Impressive Mercedes, Fisker and Corvette Concept cars were notable. Little was seen of the self driving cars, this is always difficult because so many people stack up for a ride in one.
Day 2 involved seeing the many drones. Every year swarms of drones are flown in ever more complex aerobatics. There are dozens of drone manufacturers, almost all in Asia. Some of these are overdue to go belly up. While the robotics displays have always been impressive, this year they were larger than ever. In previous years it seemed that the Japanese made the most complex robots. The Chinese for 2018 are making fairly capable robots for prices that often are near $300. It is inevitable that very useful home robots that can perform a wide array of tasks will be available for near $1000 within the next 3 years.
