Go Big Red!

Deanna, Claudette and Ron all flew to Syracuse then rented a SUV so that we would have enough room to move Deanna to Cornell in Ithaca, NY. We all stayed at the Clarion University Hotel the first night. Hope to never stay at that dump again, but its tough to find a place in Ithaca when 12,000 students and their families and all looking at the same time. The next morning we started the multitude of activities that Cornell had planned for the the parents and the students.

We dropped Deanna off for registration while Claudette and I moped thru the booths setup at Barton Hall. There was a happy person at each booth with happy thoughts about all the advantages of campus life. One boy talked about all the intramural sports possibilities, such as volleyball, which Deanna is likely to participate in.

Later we began the move in procedure at Suite 3 of Low Rise 7. Cornell is so cheap they can't afford a real name for Deanna's dorm. Maybe we can all chip in for one! Lots of cheerful students helped us move Deanna's clothes and furniture in. Deanna has a double but there are three girls in it including Lindsey and Kasey, both from the New York area. Kasey is an AG student, which Cornell is nationally known for. Deanna is starting with Civil Engineering with an Urban Studies minor, but things may change down the line. There are 7 girls using a single bathroom, you can only hope no one is armed, because trouble will be brewing in a volatile situation such as this!

Although Deanna moved in the 2nd night we all were in Ithaca, Claudette and Ron stayed at the Gothic Eves Bed and Breakfast in Trumansburg, which is about 10 minutes away from Ithaca. We stayed in a small home that was built in 1840 and the place was fantastic. Ate Haddock at Ron and Don's in Trumansburg which was excellent. Did a boat ride on the Cayuga Lake, which is one of the 11 Finger Lakes and is 400 feet deep, a sure rival to the California Tahoe.

We all made several trips to Bed Bath and Beyond and Walmart before Deanna's room was stocked with everything she needed. Ithaca is a beautiful place, but a Walmart is a Walmart is a Walmart. On our final Sunday, we took Deanna to the great seafood restaurant "BoatYard" in downtown Ithaca, then we let her go. Her bedroom in Fremont shall now be clean forevermore!
