From Vancouver, we drove back to Seattle to stay at the Hotel 1000 on First Avenue, very close to the waterfront. Our first tour was of the Seattle Underground. Like many cities, Seattle was positioned too close to and too low relative to the water's edge. The Underground is partially still there and shows off where the city originally started. The tour guide had lots of jokes which made up for the fact that the Underground is not all that impressive.
Seattle has a Starbucks on nearly every corner where there isn't a Tully's, which is a coffee house competitor. Safeco Insurance is also represented on many many buildings. Seattle is not all that rainy, it averages only about 39 inches of rain a year, similar to New York City. It is very foggy tho.
We had an expensive but very scenic dinner at the Space Needle. Started to get tired of Wild Salmon tho. The Space Needle is in a part of town that is not that attractive, it could use some upgrading. The Seattle Art Museum had a lot of old masters, not just the Indian art that seemed everywhere at the Art Galleries. We finished up with a boat ride to an island where we had dinner and a Tillicum indian dancing show that was unique and even somewhat spooky.
