London was not on the cruise schedule, so we added it. The cruise stopped at Dover where we took a bus into London. The white cliffs of Dover were not as impressive when seen from the port where the cruise stops. Driving thru London, we noted that the city had much more modern buildings than we saw 30 years ago.
One of our first stops was the Tower of London, which we had not seen on our previous trip. The Tower was very impressive, the tour guides storys were great and I would want to do that tour several more times. The inside is pretty much a museum with an unbelievable collection of suits of armor and cannon and all sorts of other war material.
The Victoria and Albert museum contained only replicas of building parts from all over the world. Yet it was all the more a special sight to see, since they were much more complete than an old ruin could be.
We waited a very long time for the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace, as did many thousands of others. Not easy to see what is going on since the area is basically flat. London is probably the cleanest city in Europe, no doubt because there are a half dozen video cameras on every corner. Throw down a piece of trash and a cop will be on you in no time. London is a police state with a smiling face.
